A Life in Moments

Among around eight billion people, you are one of a kind. Begin again somewhere in the world and see how a life unfolds.

How it works

Start once and time advances automatically. Ordinary years pass quickly; new passages stay longer. Pause to read, or choose 1×, 2× or 4×. A completed life is saved automatically. “Live again” draws a fresh birthplace.

Data & chances

Birthplaces follow each country/area’s share of the 2023 population, not its birth count. Mortality follows UN age-specific life tables. Multi-year bands use a constant annual hazard; age 100+ uses an extrapolated constant hazard. This fixed-year model is not a forecast or a personal lifespan prediction.

Cause of death

Causes use WHO GHE 2023 age-group shares, combined into 27 categories. Missing country data use regional or global estimates, identified on the result. Some infant-only causes are excluded at older ages, so single-year cause shares are approximations. Reference life expectancy is not a deadline.

Living environment

New lives use national living-condition data and original local scenes. The newest available observation from 2019–2023 is shown for each indicator. Missing data stays unknown. School and healthcare indices describe the setting, not your personal chances. Individual stories are fictional, and never alter mortality.

Living conditions

The personal passages are original fiction. Household conditions are simplified, independent draws from available World Bank service-coverage data. They do not describe everyone in a country or alter the national mortality model. Basic access does not imply perfect quality or uninterrupted supply.

Life journal

The latest 60 lives are kept in detail; your lifetime totals remain. Your old save is preserved. Earlier lives and purchases remain yours; new lives use a separate journal.

Journal themes

Permanent appearance only. Themes never change birthplace, lifespan or chances. Existing purchases are recognized.

One in eight billion

The world holds around eight billion people, each with a life of their own. Where we are born, whom we meet and what happens along the way shape different stories. Follow a life unfolding by chance and glimpse another possibility.
