Monde et mission

The board is a compact 8×8 arena where only the dark squares are playable. You begin with twelve pieces and the rival begins with twelve pieces, so every open diagonal can become an escape route, a trap, or the first link in a capture sequence.

Systèmes du jeu

Ordinary pieces move one step diagonally forward. A capture jumps over an adjacent rival piece into an empty square and removes that piece. If any capture exists anywhere on the board, non-capturing moves are not legal.

After a capture, check the same piece again: when another capture is available, the multi-jump must continue from its new square. Reaching the far row promotes a piece to a king, which can move and capture diagonally in both directions.

The rival answers after your turn and can make its own capture sequence. The match ends when one side has no pieces or no legal move; a long no-progress sequence can also settle as a draw. Hint marks a legal piece but never chooses the destination for you.

Comment jouer

  1. Start from Main and study the highlighted gold pieces and the current turn message.
  2. Select a gold piece with a legal diagonal destination, then select the highlighted landing square.
  3. If a capture is available, take it even when a quiet move would look safer; after landing, continue with the same piece whenever another capture is shown.
  4. Protect a path to the far row, promote to a king, and use the king's two-way movement to change the shape of the position.
  5. Use Hint when you need one legal starting piece, or Restart to replay the same match from its opening position.

Conseils

  • Before moving, scan every rival piece for a forced capture and count the landing square, not just the jumped piece.
  • Avoid advancing one piece alone; keep diagonal support so the rival cannot answer with a free capture.
  • During a multi-jump, reassess the next landing square after every jump instead of assuming the first capture is the whole turn.
  • Reach promotion with a clear escape square in mind. A king is flexible, but it can still be trapped by a forced capture or blocked diagonal.
  • When ahead in pieces, trade safely and reduce the rival's legal moves; when behind, preserve mobility and search for a promotion race.

Progression et difficulté

The opening teaches diagonal movement and the global capture rule. Midgame positions add competing capture choices and multi-jump decisions, while the endgame rewards kings, blocked routes, and move-count awareness.

Note de conception

The Checkers preview uses the same legal-move engine for touch, mouse, keyboard focus, Hint, the rival response, and accessible board labels. A selected piece and legal targets remain visually distinct, so the player can understand why a quiet move is unavailable without relying on hidden rules.

Note aux parents

Checkers is a general-audience browser strategy game recommended for ages 9+ and family play. No account or purchase is required; the current match and Best record stay in this browser only.
